Why did Nadzeya Ostapchuk test positive for metenolone?

Nadzeya Ostapchuk, a shot putter from Belorussia obtained the gold medal at the 2012 London Olympics. But she was stripped of the award because she failed a drug test. She was asked to provide two samples. The substance metenolone presented in both urine samples.
If you read news linked with doping, you must know that competitive sportspersons and bodybuilders are usually caught using other steroids and/or doping products. But as for Nadzeya Ostapchuk, she was caught administering metenolone. It is strange, according to words of anti-doping officers. What does this banned medication represent? Why don’t sportspersons ordinarily use this product for enhancement of performance?
Metenolone is an anabolic steroid. It has weak androgenic properties. It works like testosterone, enhancing muscle mass and adding strength.
However this steroid has only weak androgenic nature, it causes development of sex male features in females. Women that apply this medication may face usual signs of masculinization: the voice deepens; hair grows on the face and on other parts of the body; etc.
This medicine can be applied orally or through injections.
Metenolone (Methenolone) benefits greatly, when it is applied by sportspeople during their trainings. It is not administered during competitions. It doesn’t work, if it is applied just on the day of a competition.
It is also affirmed that it is easy to detect those who use this anabolic steroid.
Undesirable effects of Metenolone (Methenolone) depend upon quantities which are applied. They are following: water retention, elevated calcium level in the blood, bone growth, excessive hair growth on the body, acne, male-pattern baldness, menstrual problems, increased libido, etc.
Thus, when you see a female athlete who has deep voice and excessive hair growth on the body, you may accuse her of steroid use. Actually, it is wrong because these troubles may occur also in those females that don’t use any steroids. But sometimes these effects manifest that certain women take drugs that possess androgenic properties.
