Inhaled corticosteroids for treatment of persons with asthma

Inhaled steroids are usually indicated in case of early stages of asthma complications.
According to certain latest researches, one can increase the standard measure of inhaled corticosteroids by 8 times, but benefits will be not increased in such case. Ejaz Yousef, an expert who has been involved in these researches, confirms that if a doctor sees that medical position of a patient becomes worse, he/she may advise administering oral steroids instead of enhancing the quantity of inhaled corticosteroids. Enhancing the dosage of inhaled steroids is not without any side response. This aspect causes various unwanted consequences. For example, the hypothalamic-pituitary adrenal axis can be suppressed in such case.  
Usage of inhaled steroids was considered to be alternative therapy to using oral preparations. It was in 1997. It was advised to prescribe inhaled corticosteroids as alternatives of oral products that are useful in case of asthma exacerbations.
Then, certain studies have displayed that intake of high doses of inhaled steroids regularly doesn’t enhance benefits.
Yousef and his colleagues have conducted a research that implicated almost 200 children of 2-17 years. These children were treated with inhaled steroids during 3 months. They were chosen randomly for therapies for a period of 12 days. Any child that suffered from asthma exacerbation was given inhaled corticosteroids. Then the results were evaluated by the scientists.
No any kid that smoked, experienced symptoms of chronic asthma or lung pathology was involved in the study.
Patients had to inform about their side results via telephone within 72 hours.  Thus, it was reported about cough during nighttime, wheeze, shortness of breath and intolerance  when it comes to exercises. Every symptom was evaluated according to a score that was ranged from 0 to 4. 0 meant no any effect; 4 meant the highest severity level.
Only 4 kids out of 82 the kids that were given increased quantities of inhaled steroids had to take systemic corticosteroids. Two2 of them were given doubled dosages; others two were administering the quantity which was more enhanced by 8 times than a normal one.
According to the results of the study, effectiveness of the medicines, placebo effect, supervision of experts and treatment of persons during early stages of asthma exacerbation were responsible for getting positive results.
This as well as other researches demonstrate that not every story about steroids is connected with abuse and administration of them by sportspeople. Steroids are utilizable for numerous medical cases.
